What is the worst punishment you have ever received?  Did it feel as though there would be no justice of for you?  For those who had committed un-speak able crimes or falsely accused, there was no justice.  Death sounds worse than any punishment you’ve ever received right?  Well in the U.S more than 1,300 people have been sentenced to lethal injection since 1976.  The death penalty sounds un-just and morally wrong, surprisingly, many Americans voted it into the capital punishment system in the first place.  The death penalty has to do with taking a life for a life.  If the one being charged is being charged with murder, they should have the same done to them.  Despite wanting it there in the first place, America is beginning to question the system of punishment for major crimes with death.
Throughout the article the author displays a clear propose for writing the article.  Smith hopes to educate the readers on the whether or not the death penalty is ethical.  Smith gives examples to both sides of the ongoing debate.  One example of how the penalty is flawed is when Smith states, “Its forced prison systems to try un-tested drug combinations…”  This shows that the methods executors have had to use have been brought out by the death penalty and its questionable ethics.  However the article also gives examples of the opposing side, keeping the death penalty.  One of the most powerful pieces of evidence is when she states, “Supporters say the death penalty deters crime.”  This simple yet powerful piece of evidence suggests that scares man people away from committing murder.  In addition the author offers many instances for the reader to choose whether he or she agrees or disagrees with capital punishment.
Although the clearly leaves the choice up to the reader, however she is slightly biased on the matter.  Smith believes that the death penalty is wrong.  Many times during the article she writes more towards the bad sides of the death penalty then the benefits.  For instance, the sub headings have to do with the problems the death penalty has created.  The first is entitled, ‘Significant Problems’ the second, ‘Other Botched Executions’.  This proves that the author has clearly chosen an opinion throughout the article.
This article has only enforced my thinking about the death penalty.  This article has mad eme question the morals of those giving the injections or death sentences.
