Picture Book
1: The Black
Forest was filled with many wonders. The
thick trees provided shelter for the animals inside it.
2: However,
the animals were miserable. They were
some of the most unique animals in the world, but they had erupted in fighting
chaos and no longer knew how to get along.
3: They
would steal each other’s food and shelter.
They made each animal feel far worse than the next.
4: One day a
lovely bald eagle moved into the forest.
She was just about to have her first baby eagle and could not wait to
meet all the friendly faces of the forest.
5: Yet when
she arrived she was greeted with unfriendly glares and faces. She saw all the animals around her competing
for food and shelter. She saw many sad
and alone animals.
6: She could
not stand their misery. She decided to
fly down to the forest floor to help the other animals. She spotted a bear cub, overflowing with fish
and no room the carry it.
7:”Can I help
you?” Said the eagle excitedly. The cub
looked scared and confused.
“I have
heard of these tricks before. My mother
told me never to fall for them,” The cub said angrily.
8: The bald
eagle looked at the small cub walk away.
She frowned and flew back up to her nest. She had a good idea.
9: The next
day she brought her nest down to the forest floor and awaited the cubs
arrival. She finally saw the cub after
hours of waiting. He quickly scurried to
scurry away with all his fish tangled in his paws and mouth.
10: “No! Wait!”
Cried the bald eagle. “I have
come to give you my basket so you have a place to carry your food in!” The cub grabbed the basket and dropped his
fish inside and left without saying thank you.
Even though the bald eagle no longer had shelter, she was happy to help
the cub.
11: On her
way back to her branch, she spotted a blue jay looking for a good spot to place
her nest for her baby blue jays.
12: The blue
jay noticed that she was being watched and began to fly away scared and
angry. “No! Wait!”
The eagle cried out. “I have a
lovely spot upon a branch on this same exact tree!” Exclaimed the eagle.
“I have
heard of these tricks before. I was
taught never to fall for them.” Said the blue jay. “I do not need your help.”
“Please just
take my spot on the tree it is the only thing I can do to help. “ Said the bald eagle cheerfully. She waved goodbye as the blue jay took her
spot on the tree. Even though she did
not have a branch to rest her baby egg on, or put her nest on, she felt happy
to help.
13: On her
way to find food and a place to sleep, she spotted a fish that was out of
water. “Oh my!” Cried the eagle. The fish began to trash and gasp, he was very
scared. If she did not help him, he
would surely die. “Do not touch me! I have heard of these tricks before and I promised
never to fall for them.” Said the fish
quietly.
“Not to
worry. I have an idea!” The eagle said proudly. The eagle took the twigs she had been using
for a new nest and fashioned a raft. She
slid the fish onto the raft and pushed him back out onto the river. Even though she did not have twigs for a nest
she still felt happy to know the fish was safe.
14: As she
began to collect more twigs, she realized it was dark in the forest, and she
was lost. She cried out for help but
none of the animals came. She felt
sad.
15: When the
morning came, the eagle decided it was time to leave the Black Forest. She packed her babies egg on her back and
waved goodbye to the forest.
16: She
waved goodbye to her tree, she waved goodbye to her nest, and she waved goodbye
to her twigs.
17: But just
as she was about to leave she saw something odd happen. She saw all the animals down by the river
helping each other carry food and find shelter.
The bald eagle smiled to herself, happy that she had made the unfriendly
forest friendly.
18: And just
as she was about to leave, knowing she had done a good job, the animals called
her name.
“Bald
eagle! Bald eagle!” Cried the cub.
“Please don’t
leave!” Chirped the blue jay.
“We made you
something,” Gasped the fish. All the animals in the forest presented her with
a huge nest, filled with food for her and her baby eagle. The bald eagle smiled widely for she knew she
had made all the animals happy. And they
had made her happy too.
